Lime Crime Velvetines vs MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick
Over the last year or so liquid lipsticks have become very popular and I'm definitely a massive fan of them! I first started off using drugstore alternatives to the high end ones just to see if I liked them and I was a bit put off them for a long time after trying the Collection Cream Puff matte lip creams - I think that's what they're called?!
Anyway, after months of deliberation and um'ing and ah'ing, I made an impulse buy and bought three Lime Crime Velvetines. I was so excited to get them and when they arrived I completely fell in love with them! The packaging is so beautiful and the scent smells just like sweet toffee. The three shades I got were Faded, Wicked and Riot. After getting in an overly excited fumble trying the get them out of their boxes I tried them on and I really didn't want to take them off! They glide on so effortlessly and are super pigmented so you don't need several layers to get any colour pay off. I applied a thin layer of lip balm on my lips before I used the Velvetines and I didn't find them very drying or uncomfortable at all. When I haven't used lip balm I have noticed that they do feel a little more dry on the lips, but not uncomfortable. I wore my absolute favourite shade which is Faded to work one day and it lasted on my lips for around 3-4 hours before I needed to top up the inner part of my lips, but I don't mind a little top up here and there especially if I've been drinking and eating.

A few weeks later I ordered Beet It which was sold out when I first went on the website and I just fell in love with the colour. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a sucker for dark purple or berry lips and this colour just stood out to me. I have to say that this one isn't as long wearing as the other one's I have which I was a little disappointed with. When I applied it, it did go a little streaky - Wicked also applies a little streaky so maybe it's something to do with the dark colours - but after another layer and a little bit of dabbing with my finger, it all blended in really nicely. I went out to eat with Beet It on and it started to feel crumbly after a while which didn't happen with the other ones! Also the applicator feels rougher than the rest which was strange. I don't know if the one I was sent was from a bad batch or it's just a different formula, but I'll still wear it, just maybe not when I go out for food! Lime Crime Velvetines retail at £13.76 which in my opinion is a reasonable price for a great quality liquid lipstick.

Just before Christmas MAC brought out their new Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick range - try saying that when you're drunk! - and I was so excited about them! The only colour that really stood out to me was Oh Lady which is a lovely deep plum colour. The day after I received the lipstick I wore it to work and I was so disappointed with it. It takes me 5 minutes to walk from my house to where I work and as soon as I got there, I looked in the mirror and the lipstick had faded on the inside of my lips and it looked a little patchy. Not great considering they cost £21! A few hours later and the dryness of the product started to get really uncomfortable and quite unbearable. I did have a look on Youtube for other peoples opinions on the lipsticks and a lot of them said that some of the colours have better pay off than others, so I'm not too sure whether to risk trying out another colour or just accept that it inst that great of a product!

My overall opinion is that the Velvetines are a much better product and cost a lot less than the MAC liquid lipstick. However people might really like the MAC ones and hate Lime Crimes's, it's all about personal preference but I would highly recommend trying the Velvetines if you haven't already, They're just brilliant!
